Salobrena

During our visits to Spain we have travelled around the region discovering new places to recommend to our family and friends or just to visit for ourselves.

One of our favourite coastal towns is Salobrena, which is situated east of Malaga in the Granada Province. This is a scenic town with a beach that is split by a rocky outcrop that extends a couple of hundred yards into the sea. On one side of the outcrop the beach is sandy, while the other side is a pebble beach.

There are several restaurants on the beach and along the road beside the beach. When we were there in January there were hundreds of camper van parked along the beachside road. These all belonged to German pensioners who aparrantly spend the winter in this town. As you can see from the photos the beaches are empty, but it was very cold and windy. We visited again in June and the beach was mobbed, mostly with Spanish people. Salobrena is still very much a Spanish town with very few hotels or souvenier shops and is a change from places like Marbella that cater for the tourist trade. The prices here are very reasonable and the food in the restaurants is mostly seafood, fresh and good.

We enjoyed Salobrena and will visit again as it is a nice, scenic drive from our house.
